Taiwan holds anti-invasion drill as China risk heightens

An F-16 screeched throughout the sky then landed on a freeway surrounded by pineapple fields in southwestern Taiwan to rapidly refuel earlier than taking off once more.

4 army plane, together with Taiwan’s self-made Indigenous Defensive Fighter, the U.S.-made F-16V and the French-made Mirage 2000-5, landed in Jiadong — simulating what they might do if their air base had been broken by enemy forces.

The simulation is a part of Taiwan’s five-day Han Guang army train designed to organize the island’s forces for an assault by China, which claims Taiwan as a part of its personal territory. The annual train was smaller this 12 months as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.

Within the final two years, the risk from China has risen, because the Individuals’s Liberation Military flies fighter jets in the direction of Taiwan on a near-daily foundation in an effort to intimidate and harass the island’s air forces.

In August, Chinese language fighter jets, anti-submarine plane and fight ships performed joint assault drills close to Taiwan with China saying the train was essential to safeguard its sovereignty.

Wu reported from Taipei.
