Microsoft says ‘configuration replace’ prompted world Outlook outage

Microsoft is making an attempt to repair a worldwide outage after a software program “configuration replace” left many customers unable to entry their Outlook e mail.

“We have acquired experiences of customers experiencing points accessing their Change On-line accounts through Outlook on the Net”, an official Microsoft account tweeted early on Thursday morning.

A number of hours after customers began to note the outage, Microsoft mentioned it had discovered the reason for the outage.

“We have decided {that a} latest configuration replace to parts that route consumer requests was the reason for affect,” it mentioned. “We have reverted the replace and are monitoring the service for restoration.”

Whereas Microsoft’s preliminary investigation discovered that customers in India have been most affected, the corporate mentioned the difficulty seemed to be affecting customers worldwide. 

Customers could expertise issues with numerous Change On-line protocols together with Outlook desktop and cellular companies, Microsoft mentioned. 

The outage comes as rising numbers of persons are working remotely because of the coronavirus pandemic. Microsoft customers vented their frustrations on social media because the outage left them unable to ship and obtain essential emails.

Adam Thomas wrote on Twitter: “Some companies depend on a practical e mail service to conduct enterprise, please attempt to work quicker as I’ve emails anticipated immediately to do my very own work.”

That is the second main Microsoft outage this week. On Tuesday, Microsoft had issues with Microsoft 365 companies together with Outlook and Groups.  

It’s unclear if the 2 outages are linked.
